Our Mission

At Hearing Choices Australia, our mission is to bring transparency, choice, and trust to the hearing aid market, making better hearing more accessible for everyone.

Hearing loss is one of the fastest-growing health challenges in Australia. Today, an estimated 3.6 million people live with hearing loss, and as our population ages, that number is projected to double by 2060. Already, 3 in 4 Australians over 70 experience some degree of hearing difficulty. Yet despite its prevalence, people wait an average of 10 years before seeking help for hearing loss.1,1,2

Hearing Choices Australia was created out of a determination to change that.

We are committed to providing consumer-first information on hearing products, brands, technology, and prices. Because we believe everyone deserves the knowledge and confidence to seek out the care they deserve.

Our Story

Hearing Choices Australia was founded in January 2016 under the name Ozen, by Akiva Szental, a commercial lawyer, and Noam Korbl, a business strategist. Szental and Korbl created Ozen after witnessing firsthand how challenging the hearing care system could be. Both watched their grandparents pay significant amounts of money for hearing aids that didn’t meet their needs—and they quickly realized that this wasn’t an isolated experience.

Szental and Korbl recognized there was a clear lack of transparency and limited information available online for people researching hearing aids. Despite the fact that one in six Australians has some degree of hearing loss, people wait an average of 10 years before seeking help. Instead of accepting the status quo, the founders decided to build a more consumer-focused resource for hearing care in Australia.

They began Ozen as a side hustle, bootstrapping the business from the ground up, with both founders working after hours while maintaining full-time employment elsewhere. By using their own skill sets across technology, digital development, and consumer service, they built the foundations of the company without any external funding. While challenging, this ensured Ozen could remain independent, unbiased, and consumer-driven.

As the company evolved, so did its name. Ozen officially rebranded to Hearing Choices, a name that reflects a core mission: to bring transparency, choice, and trust to the hearing aid market in Australia.

This mission continues to guide the company today. What started as a small side hustle has grown into a national hearing-care platform, partnered with trusted audiology clinics across Australia.
