ReSound has introduced its latest hearing device with some special features including the unique Microphone and Receiver-in-the-Ear (M&RIE) class of hearing aid. ReSound One runs on a new, more powerful, chip – the C6. This platform boasts an increase of 220% in memory when compared to its predecessor, the LiNX Quattro chip. It also provides 50% more processing power, which ReSound says gives the technology in this hearing aid “greater depth and direction without compromising battery life.” There’s a lot to like about the new technology in the ReSound One as it builds on its successful technology and organic hearing philosophy.

ReSound One Organic Hearing

ReSound’s philosophy in its approach to giving users natural hearing, takes a big leap forward with the ReSound One technology. Using a different configuration of microphones and providing improved hearing and clarity in more difficult environments, the ReSound One offers natural, more organic hearing.

The M&RIE – Resound One has created the world’s first Microphone & Receiver-In-Ear (M&RIE) hearing aid. The M&RIE offers a three microphone set-up – two that sit on top of the hearing aid and one that sits behind the receiver in the ear. The C6 chip technology gives improved processing power, enabling reduced feedback from this microphone arrangement. Not only that, having a microphone in the ear canal replicates more precisely what the outside portion of your ear (the pinna) does, making amplified sounds, sound more natural. This is known as the ‘pinna effect’ and is an important part of picking up and localising sounds in the environment. There is also the added advantage of the improved binaural (both ears) processing for your brain. The three microphone set-up gives an improved signal to noise ratio (SNR), as it transfers the spatially encoded external signal to your ears. With this enhanced SNR you should experience better localisation, with improved depth and distance awareness. The M&RIE will also give you a 14-19dB reduction in wind noise when compared to other, more traditional microphone arrangements. The M&RIE hearing aid will be suitable for hearing levels in the mild to moderately-severe range. The other type of ReSound One receiver (no microphone in the ear) will suit all hearing levels as it offers three levels – low power, medium power, and ultra-power receiver for the ReSound One.

All Access Directionality – This feature in the ReSound One, will modify the microphone patterns, enabling you to hear what’s vital to you. The technology in All Access Directionality gives a 360 degree access to sounds in the ear with the better SNR, while the other ear’s ReSound One hearing aid uses a directional microphone processing rationale. This processing array between the two hearing aids will give an improved SNR of 2 dB (when compared to the previous LiNX models), meaning a reduction in background noise for improved speech understanding.

Ultra Focus – For more complex listening environments, this feature gives both hearing aids the ability to zone in and focus on the speech signal coming from the front. This is reported to give a 30% improvement in speech understanding for noisy situations. Utlra Focus can be activated via the push button on your hearing aid or with the ReSound smartphone app.

Connectivity – ReSound Smart 3D app

ReSound’s smartphone app has always been one of the best and continues to be a leader in this technology. ReSound One makes use of all the features in the ReSound Smart 3D app including Remote Fine-Tuning and Live Assistance.

Model Options and Technology Levels

ReSound One offers three alternatives for size in the Receiver-in-the-Ear style of hearing aid. The smallest – RT61-DRW – uses a disposable 312 size battery. The next size up is a rechargeable model. The third size, powered by a size 13 battery, also includes a t-coil. Depending on your hearing levels, these models are available with the M&RIE option.

The ReSound One line has eight colour options to choose from, designed to blend with skin and hair tones. The revamped shape of the hearing aid looks stylish and includes a new improved pushbutton, microphone position, redesigned receiver wire and receiver attachment for easier coupling and retention for domes in the ear.

Rechargeable – The RT61-DRWC is the rechargeable model in the ReSound One series and offers excellent battery life for streaming. With a three hour charge you’ll get thirty hours out of your hearing aid without streaming. ReSound One also has an amazing battery life when it comes to streaming – a whopping 25 hours! This means you could stream all day on one overnight charge. You can also go off grid with the premium charger which has three extra charges stored in it. And if you’re caught short from some reason, a quick one hour charge will give you 15 hours of power, and a super-fast ten minute charge will give you around two-and-a-half hours.

The ReSound One has four technology levels:

ReSound One 9 – This model has 17 adjustment bands for your clinician to match your hearing loss prescriptive targets. This Premium level hearing aid includes All Access Directionality and Ultra Focus technology. There are four programs, three Impulse Noise Reduction settings and five settings for Noise Tracker. The standard features of Sound Shaper, Spatial Sense, Synchronised Acceptance Manager, Synchronised SoftSwitching, Tinnitus Sound Generator are available as well as three settings for the Wind Guard technology.

ReSound One 7 – This Advanced technology level has 14 adjustment bands but does not include All Access Directionality and Ultra Focus technology. Instead you will experience the Binaural Directionality III feature. There are four programs, two Impulse Noise Reduction settings and three settings for Noise Tracker. The standard features of Sound Shaper, Spatial Sense, Synchronised Acceptance Manager, Synchronised SoftSwitching, Tinnitus Sound Generator are available as well as two settings for the Wind Guard technology.

ReSound One 5 – This technology level provides 12 adjustment bands, and basic Binaural Directionality. There are four programs, On/Off Impulse Noise Reduction settings and two settings for Noise Tracker. The standard features of Sound Shaper, Synchronised Acceptance Manager, Synchronised SoftSwitching, Tinnitus Sound Generator are available as well as the On/Off option for the Wind Guard technology.

ReSound One 4 – The lowest technology level has 10 adjustment bands, four programs On/Off Impulse Noise Reduction, On/Off Noise Tracker, Sound Shaper, Synchronised Acceptance Manager, Synchronised SoftSwitching, Tinnitus Sound Generator and On/Off Wind Guard technology.
